Jasmin's Fitness Journey: Chapter 11 – The Newest Member of Our Family :)
Our little bundle of joy has arrived! Stephen and I are ecstatic to welcome little Budrina Badrin King to our BodyNetix family! Born June 25, 2017 at 5:11am – 6 pounds, 12 ounces.
My Birthing Experience
Throughout my thirty-nine weeks of pregnancy I was grateful to have women share their pregnancy and birthing experiences with me. I found it amazing how different it can be for everyone; so, I would like to share with you my experience.
Pregnancy was quite delightful, from the start of my first trimester all the way through my third. Other than my belly growing bigger, I did not feel all that different. Pregnancy did not interfere too much with my daily routine including my fitness schedule; I was able to keep going to workout’s up until 4 days before I delivered. The fitness aspect was very interesting, as I was advised by many people to give up the activity. I found this suggestion difficult to process because being active not only benefits me physically, but most importantly it benefits me mentally. To be honest, I found the reality of growing a human being quite overwhelming which lead to varying levels of anxiety. However, I did understand that vigorous activity poses potential risks for myself and the baby so I made sure to listen to my body (and doctor) every step of the way.
Then came June 24th, Stephen and I were eating fish and chips on the Comox dock when I started having what I thought were Braxton Hick’s contractions. It was uncomfortable but nothing alarming. Stephen started to notice they were happening every five minutes and lasting for about a minute each time. I was still not concerned because my expected due date was still another couple of weeks away. After dinner, we did some shopping then later went home. Around midnight I decided to call the nurse help line just to inquire about the sensations I had been having all evening. After the nurse heard I was having rhythmic contractions since dinner time, he alerted me that I should have gone to the hospital at that point. I was still hesitant about his urgency but I did reassure him I would go. Around 1:30 am the nurse told me that I would have to stay at the hospital because I was 5 centimetres dilated. Having not done the whole pregnancy thing before I did question if she was sure (again because my due date was still a couple weeks away). Then suddenly the contractions became longer and intense! The nurses prepped me for delivery and honestly, I was terrified for what was going to happen; thankfully I had Stephen by my side. Fortunately, I had been practicing hypnobirthing for the past few weeks, and it was these breathing techniques alone that got me through the active labour and delivery. Then at 5:11 am on Sunday June 25, 2017 Budrina Badrin King was born. Words cannot express the love we have for this precious little being.
After looking back on my whole experience, if I can pass along one piece of advice it would be to stay active. I believe it was the activity that enabled me to have a happy and easy-going pregnancy and delivery. In addition to the giving my mind the clarity I needed throughout the pregnancy, and it kept my body in great physical shape to complete what felt like a triathlon. I am happy to report I have returned to the gym (just 2 weeks after my delivery).
Thank you for your support!
